West Bengal has recorded India’s first conviction in a digital arrest scam, where over ₹100 crore was fraudulently extorted from more than 100 victims. The scam involved impersonation of officials and threats of arrest to force online money transfers. The government has enhanced coordination mechanisms to combat such cyber frauds.
